Why is the Wheels of Hope Ministry different from other charitable car donation programs?
The truth is that most vehicles donated to charitable organizations are simply sold by the charity, with the proceeds in turn funding the aims of the organization. Although the charities undoubtedly do good things with the proceeds, the bottom line is that the car is not put back into the hands of the truly needy and deserving people.
That is why Wheels of Hope is different!
Wheels of Hope is a registered non-profit organization in the state of Missouri approved by the IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charity. Wheels of Hope is a ministry in partnership with Hart Automotive and several local churches (including Lindsay Lane Baptist Church) whose primary focus is to provide affordable cars to those who need them most.
Here’s how the program works:
- You donate your car to Wheels of Hope.
- If the car is economically repairable, Hart Automotive provides the services needed to restore the vehicle to road-worthy condition.
- Once the vehicle is fixed, Wheels of Hope sells the vehicle at cost — equal to the price of insurance, inspections, and needed repairs — to a qualifying needy individual.
- If the car is in such shape that it is not economically repairable, then — like other charitable organizations — Wheels of Hope simply sells the vehicle as-is, and the proceeds go towards repairs for other vehicles donated to the program.
In this way, your donation goes directly towards providing much-needed transportation to someone who otherwise could not afford it. Through the Wheels of Hope program, you can truly make a difference in someone’s life, not simply by handing them money, but by giving them the means to make a better life for themselves. As the old proverb goes, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”
